Teimuraz Metreveli Foundation

Promoting quality press and quality media. Defending freedom of expression and nurturing independent journalism in Georgia — continuing the legacy of one of the nation's most courageous editorial voices.

Truth as a structural element of national life

The Teimuraz Metreveli Foundation exists to promote freedom of speech, quality press, and independent, high-quality journalism in Georgia and beyond. It is not a monument to the past but a living structure — designed to support those who speak when others fall silent, to fund critical voices that keep societies open, and to build platforms where truth can be articulated with dignity and precision.

Quality Press

Supporting journalism that meets the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and editorial integrity.

Quality Media

Investing in media infrastructure that prioritizes substance over sensation, depth over speed.

A foundation for those who do not ask for permission to speak. Clarity over propaganda. Dignity over fear.

TMF stands for a public sphere where journalism is not an act of heroism, but a natural condition of a free society.

Building infrastructure for independent voices

The Foundation's permanent project is the online edition of Georgian Culture — a continuation of one of the most influential cultural newspapers of modern Georgian history. Through this project, TMF sustains cultural memory, nurtures critical discourse, and protects the fragile space where independent thought can still breathe.

One of the most prominent Georgian journalists and editors of the 1990s and 2000s, Teimuraz Metreveli was a voice that shaped the country's post-Soviet public sphere. The Foundation carries forward the principles that defined his life: intellectual honesty, courage, and an unshakable commitment to freedom of expression.

As editor-in-chief of Akhali Epoka (New Epoch) — Georgia's first fully colored daily newspaper — he set new standards for both journalistic integrity and visual excellence in Georgian media, exemplifying what quality press can achieve.
